Meet the Gang! Is a Trio of pieces written for John D Elliott’s lower brass group “Brasso ProFUNdo”. Fred the Fork, Syd the Spoon and Pete the Plate make up this quirky and fun trio.

Fred the Fork -The title alludes to a song written in 1928 Berlin by Weill and Brecht which has metamorphosised into a jazz standard. Like the original, "Fred the Fork" is in "swing" style and incorporates upward transpositions after each verse. Listen out for the cryptic musical quotation at the end.

Syd the Spoon is in a lively 4/4 time but with the inclusion of triplet rhythms, which could be complemented with a spoon accompaniment. The theme is in the minor key with major version of the theme in the middle section. The piece contains cryptic tributes to a 1940s Big band leader. Some later thinking is required to connect the finale with a famous animator.

Pete the Plate is in a slow heavy swing style, creating an atmosphere like that of the sleazy dives of pre-war Berlin.
Note the two cryptic quotes towards the end of the piece. Be sure to give prominence to the second euphonium part at bar 9 in order to vary the overall sound at this point.
