I composed two albums, 'The Vikings are Coming' and 'The Sorcerer' with young musicians in mind. The first solo in each album is grade 1
standard, the second, grade 2 and so on. Each piece is fashioned around
the technical requirements for each grade, introducing the appropriate
new rhythms and key signatures as well as gradually extending range.
I'm afraid the subject matter and even the titles were not my idea, but
my children's when they were young brass players! I hope this music
will help to advance students and, more importantly, give much
enjoyment.
The solo part is available in both treble and bass clef.
The Sorcerer
The Ancient Wand. It has been found! Magic and wonder is released.
The show begins.
The Great Mephisto. Within a strange, Victorianesque traveling show,
Mephisto is fantastical and grotesque. Is this an act or……?
The Magician. Dark eyed and beguiling he hypnotises us with his gaze
and works his terrible wonders.
Warlock, Breaker of Oaths. The shadows flicker and grow before our
eyes as the show reaches its climax.
Malzaar the Magnificent. At last, Malzaar. He is crazed, wild and
utterly timeless. He controls us with his increasingly frenzied dance,
until...........
