JUBILATE for trombone quintet by Karen Street
This is a joyous piece for trombone quintet and should be played as such. After an opening fanfare section, the piece settles down into 5/4 groove over which the first melody is stated. After modulating up a major third the piece slows to 3/4 section over which a beautiful melody soars, which is passed amongst the different parts. A ring of bells and we are into Eb with a fuller version of the melody before a recap of the 5/4 section and a coda section which includes the opening fanfare and a rousing finish. Although not a jazz piece it definitely has jazz undertones and harmonies. It was written especially for Wells Cathedral trombone department.
