Oehler: Pride
Pride, for Bb trumpet and piano, was inspired by this somehow versatile feeling of pride. It can often appear as a very noble behaviour, with some panache and depth, but also as more hectic and sometimes useless. The slow introduction followed by a lively section is inherited from the tradition of the Paris Conservatoire "Pièces de Concours". I think that the trumpet suits perfectly this thin barrier, easily crossed, between real panache and attempts to show off; but always in a characterful manner.
