Miniatures for Trombone Quartet (2002) was commossioned by the US Naval Academy Trombone Quartet and premiered by them in Annaplis, Maryland (USA). The Quartet recorded the work for the Contemporary Record Society CD #0276 titled "Compilation". The work beings with Movement I, Sonorous, a slow, lush and rich statement of vertical sonorities. Movement II, With vigor, features a one-in-the-bar 5/8 imitative treatment of the opening figure of repearted notes. Movement III, Resonant, creates a slow, homophonic contrast. Movement IV, Fast, presents hammerstroke seventh chords followed by driving melodic lines alternating with hammerstrokes creating a quasi rondo formal pattern.
