John Sweden

John Sweden was born in Sydney; Australia but was educated in England.

He attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he studied bass trombone with Dennis Wick, piano with Neil Van Allen and composition with Edmund Rubbra.

During his time at the Guildhall, John was much in demand to compose music for the various theatrical productions, and as an arranger. He also had his concertino for piano and chamber orchestra performed there.

John Sweden was the recipient of the first post graduate exchange scholarship between the Guildhall school and the University of Western Michigan, Kalamazoo, USA, where he added conducting to his studies, under Herbert Butler?s tuition. More recently John has obtained a postgraduate certificate in music technology from the University of Hertfordshire.

His compositions include a Concerto for Tuba, a Concerto for Alto Trombone, a Trombone Quartet and a Suite for Concert Band.

John Sweden is active in the field of Music Education, where he composes and arranges for keyboard and keyboard ensembles.

John lives in Northwest London but likes to find time to spend at his retreat near Limoges, France.
